My First Blog Post

About Me

Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.

โ€” Oscar Wilde.

Hi all!

As this is my first post I figured I would let you all get to know me briefly before diving into the rest of my blog. I am in my first year with CQU and am currently studying a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of Accounting totally online. I finished high school last year in my hometown based in the Riverland, SA where a lot of businesses are local and family owned, which inspired me to study business now as it opens up a whole world of possibilities for the future. I also work part-time in one of the family-owned businesses in the Riverland.

I enjoy playing netball for the social aspects of it and have been playing since I started primary school. The past few years I have also been involved in mixed netball during the summer season which has also been very enjoyable since it is so similar to regular netball but allows men to play also.

That’s all from me today, I am hoping that as this term continues my blog posts become more regular but since this is only the start I am not sure what to expect.

Until next time,

Dani

Ass: 2 Steps: 7-10

Hi all!

With the last few weeks of the semester just around the corner, I have never felt so nervous!! Nevertheless, I have just completed steps 7-9 for the second assessment and would like to show you all!

If you have any feedback at all I would really appreciate it! ๐Ÿ™‚

Plan Your HR Budget For 2020

Hi guys!

I am back! It feels like a while since I have written a blog post. Maybe it has not really been that long but the days just seem to drag on lately.

Anyways, these are my thoughts for chapter 7 in the study guide. Luckily, I kind of already knew what a lot of the key concepts were so it was easy for me to follow along with Martin.

hope you enjoy guys ๐Ÿ™‚

Ass #2, Step 2

COST COST COST COST COST!

Hey all!

I am back and have brought with me a draft for my step 2 for the second assignment for this unit. Is it just me or has the time been going really fast?

I found this chapter to be quite a read, I feel like I was able to learn a lot of interesting things in this chapter and was able to easily relate it back to personal experiences. But I am sure you will all read about it in my word document I have posted below… so I will not prattle on for much longer, I hope you enjoy :))

ASS #2, Step: 3

Frugal Finance money management blog articles investing insight

So, after spending MANY hours attempting to restate my financial statements, I think I have finally thrown in the towel (or at least done the best I could). I am still not sure if I did any of it right and I would love some feedback if anybody has the time, just to give me some pointers or to perhaps help me understand something you all think I am struggling with just by analysing my work. Either way, whether you choose to give some feedback or not, I appreciate you all that still come to my blog and read what I have to say.

Speaking of what I have to say, below is a link with a word document and my excel spreadsheet. The word document contains my thoughts about the whole process of restating my financials, written in chapters based on which statement I did. My excel spreadsheet contains all the information I have about The Rank Group (AKA my company). Like I mentioned earlier, I am not completely sure if I did everything correctly, so if you do not have anything better to do, I would appreciate all the help I could get.

Thank you all!

Dani.

ASS #2 STEP: 1

I find power in being organised. I like to be on top of my work, no matter how time consuming and stressful it may be. In this unit particularly, I like to be a week ahead when possible. So as I read through the weekly schedule I found in Moodle, I looked at the tasks for week 5, and here is my result.

The beginning of my second assignment for this unit, and its very first step towards completion. I hope you all enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

OUR COMPANIES ARE HERE!

I AM SO HAPPY! It was about time our companies were finally released to us! The wait is officially over, thank the lord! Are we all happy with our given company? Had you guys heard of your company before it was given to you? I am so keen to read about everybody’s company.

Anyways, without further ado, allow me to present to you all MY COMPANY

The logo of Rank Group

Does anyone recognise the logo? No? It’s okay, I didn’t recognise it either. Anyways, the company I was given is called Rank Group. And from what I have gathered so far about it, Rank Group is a gambling company that originated in the United Kingdom in 1937. Since then, The Rank Group has had MAJOR success! Gambling in an important sector if the leisure market in terms of employment broader economic contribution globally.

I spent roughly an hour this morning flicking through their 2019 Annual Report to gather some information on the company themselves to then provide all you guys with some background information!

Rank Group is comprised of three brands; Grosvenor Casinos, Mecca and Enracha. Grosvenor is the LARGEST casino operator in Great Britain, with Mecca coming in as second largest. Each brand has over 50 venues located in Great Britain, however this is not the end of Rank Group. They also have another 10 venues internationally and are also digital, coming in first in Spain for largest digital bingo brand. In total, Rank Group has 144 venues located globally, and take up 45% of the online bingo market in Spain.

Rank Group’s annual report states their ambition on the third page, so it is easy to find their goal; Rank Group are on their way to work towards becoming a ยฃ1bn revenue international gaming company by 2023!

Anyways, I plan to provide more information on Rank Group for you guys when I find out more myself! Maybe I should start playing their online bingo (just kidding).

Until next time,

Dani

ASS#1, STEP 1

(Here’s a sneak peek of my cover page)

I will be honest, when I first looked at the PDF explaining what step one was, I didn’t think it sounded so serious. So, after reading the introduction and first chapter of our study guide, I jotted down dot points with key words thinking that was all I had to do. I’m not sure why, but at first I did not think the task was supposed to be so serious.

It was not until I looked at example’s from previous student’s as well as the draft’s that have already been submitted on some of my peer’s blogs that I realised just how serious it was supposed to be. Maybe I am still on holiday mode or still think I am in high school. Heck, it could even be the fact that this is my first task I have had to do for any of my units so far.

Long story short, and after multiple re-edits, I am very happy to submit the draft to the first part of this assignment. I would be so grateful if some of you could respond with feedback, positive or negative. I definitely need to be put on the right track… this is definitely not like my small-town high school.

I am still counting down for Friday when we FINALLY get our company!! Can not wait to see which company we all will have!

How I Feel so Far…

With my first semester starting in just under two short weeks, I figured now is a really good time to express how I feel about starting University and starting my units so far.

For my first term, one of my units is ACCT11059, or in other words, Accounting, Learning and Online Communication. I am feeling fairly confident in this unit as I just finished high school last year, and one of my four Stage 2 subjects for the year was Accounting, so parts of the study guide sound familiar to me so far which is great news!

This unit may be one I am most excited for, especially because in the first email I received by my unit coordinator I was told I would be given a company to analyse their finances. This intrigued me so much and I am so excited to see which company I will be given. Shame I do not find out until a few more weeks… I am so excited! (and not very patient)

So I guess that is where my head is at right now. I suppose in a few weeks time I may feel differently as I will be given my company by then, but until then…

Dani
